Why did God create Man?

Discover the Biblical Truth Behind Our Creation and Purpose

Good morning my brothers, and fellow Patriarchs.

It is a quiet morning in the wild, the air is fresh, the world feels untouched.

In this vast wilderness, a man stands alone…created from the dust, bearing the likeness of God himself.

He feels the weight of the earth beneath his feet, and the call for adventure in his heart.

He’s been made for something extraordinary…something beyond his understanding.

Sound familiar?

Yes, this is the first man Adam we are talking about, but it feels like we too are called into this adventure.

Before we can fully understand what the ‘adventure’ is, and what it is to ‘be a Man’, we first need to ask the question: Why did God create us?

Our vision here at The Patriarch is “To be a generation of strong men, that love, fear & bring glory to Jesus.”

This is important for me. For you. For our sons, and their sons.

Let’s get it.

Genesis 1:26-27 -  Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The first thing to grapple with, is that men (and women) are the ONLY beings in the Bible, created ‘in God’s image’.

God’s image wow! Let’s touch on that first before we understand why God would create Man (let alone mankind - men & women).

Being created in God’s image highlights how unique we are as God’s creation.

Genesis 1:26 refers to being made in God’s image, in God’s likeness. This means that, you my dude, were created to have the intellectual, spiritual, relational & moral ‘likeness’ of God.

That means, you have value. You are worthy. And because you are God’s creation, in God’s likeness, you are loved!

But ok, God created man in His likeness, massive deal, amazing honour etc etc. But why would God create man?

Here are some key reasons directly from Scripture:

  1. To Display God’s Glory
We were created to reflect and display God’s glory to the world. God’s intention is that we, as His creation, would recognize His greatness and make His glory known to others. We were made to glorify Him in everything we do.

Isaiah 43:7 – "Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."

  2. To Have a Relationship With Him
God didn’t just create man for the sake of creation—He created us to be in close relationship with Him. In Genesis, we see God walking with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, a picture of the intimate connection God desires with His people. Without this relationship, we are missing our purpose.

John 15:5 – "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

  3. To Multiply and Fill the Earth
From the beginning, God commanded mankind to be fruitful and multiply. This goes beyond just having children—it’s about expanding God's glory throughout the earth by living according to His purpose and in relationship with Him.

  4. To Rule Over and Steward Creation
God gave mankind the responsibility to rule over the earth and steward it well. As image-bearers, we were entrusted with the care of God’s creation, reflecting His wisdom and love in the way we manage the world around us.

Genesis 1:28 – "God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.'"

Notice how these reasons connect: we are created to display God’s glory, live in relationship with Him, and manage His creation responsibly, all while multiplying and filling the earth.

This is our purpose.

But here's something fascinating:

When you read Genesis 2:8, you find that although man was created with all this purpose, he wasn’t created in the Garden of Eden. Man was made outside, in the wilderness, and then placed in the garden.

Genesis 2:8:
Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.

What does this mean? It suggests that man was created for adventure, to seek purpose even in the wild. The wilderness represents a place of challenge, growth, and revelation. It’s where some of the greatest biblical figures encountered God in powerful ways—Moses, David, and even Jesus.

So there you go. Brothers, we were created with purpose, we are loved, and we belong in the wild 😂😂😂

Hey bro, you were created to display God’s glory, and give God glory.
